The Contemporary Arts Center presents the retrospective Moving Image Laboratory 2020–2025. Over six years, this residency program of FUSO Insular has been supporting and fostering video art creation in the Azores, and this is the first time that all the works produced are shown together.

The Moving Image Laboratory has taken place since 2020 on the island of São Miguel. In each edition, up to eight participants are challenged to develop a video work over three months, with close mentoring by artist André Laranjinha and theoretical contributions from various guest artists. Over the years, the program has included names such as Daniel Blaufuks, Susana de Sousa Dias, Yuri Firmeza, Catarina Mourão, and Cláudia Varejão.

More than a retrospective, this exhibition functions as a portrait. It brings together very different works which, taken as a whole, reflect the diversity of approaches and perspectives shaping video art produced in the region.

Part of the PDL 26 Portuguese Capital of Culture program, this presentation proposes a kind of unhurried marathon, where each visitor can create their own path.

There will be 45 videos on continuous projection, in a format designed for entering, leaving, returning, watching at length, or revisiting.
