The Biblioteca Pública e Arquivo Regional Luís da Silva Ribeiro is presenting, from 6 to 31 March, the bibliographic showcase “Dia Internacional da Mulher” in the Reading Room and Home Loan area.

In recent years, the Swedish Academy has made noticeable efforts to diversify both the geographical backgrounds and the genders of its selections, although the Nobel Prize in Literature has historically been dominated by male voices. To date, only 18 women have won the Nobel Prize in Literature since its creation in 1901 (out of more than 120 laureates).
However, there has been a clear acceleration: while only six women received the award between 1901 and 1990, in the past 20 years that number has almost doubled, including names such as Olga Tokarczuk (2018), Svetlana Alexievich (2015), and Alice Munro (2013).
