During the 5th week after Easter (from Friday to Thursday of the following week). It is the largest religious festivity in the Azores and the second largest in the country. Devotion to the miracle worker Santo Cristo dates back to the 17th century and takes place annually around Pentecost. Thousands of Azoreans come from other islands, the mainland, and many countries with a large Azorean diaspora, such as the United States, Canada, and Brazil. Campo de São Francisco and Convento da Esperança are gathering points for conviviality and faith in Ecce Homo, “The Lord of the Islands”.
